Ever one to give revealing interviews, Slipknot guitarist Jim Root has revealed the ‘blessing’ that came from being fired from Stone Sour.

The band, which saw Root work alongside frontman Corey Taylor for nearly 20 years, was a key part in him and Taylor’s creative relationship.

As such, you’d be forgiven for thinking that being dismissed from another band that you’re in with your singer would make things a bit …awkward.

Turns out, concentrating on Slipknot is “why I’m not in that band anymore”, according to Root, in an interview with HMV.

“I was spreading myself too thin. That was making me unhappy and that, in turn, was making the rest of Stone Sour unhappy.

“Corey’s different. He needs things to be ‘go, go, go’ all the time. I need time to decompress and to figure things out. I can’t be on tour constantly if I really want to be creative.”

Root went on to reveal that with the extra time on his hands he had more time to work on We Are Not Your Kind, noting that Slipknot “were able to collaborate, really collaborate, like a real band, rather than just working on a demo that one or two of us had built.”

We Are Not Your Kind has been received with acclaim by fans and critics alike, with the band reportedly already looking ahead to their next record.

“We’re constantly in a creative mode,” said drummer Jay Weinburg, speaking to Blabbermouth.

“As artists who want to keep pushing forward and charting new territory and keep making art that we’re really proud of, of course, we’re thinking about the next record. So, we’ll see.”

Despite the fact the band are in the middle of a lawsuit with ex-trashcan basher Chris Fehn it looks like the band are showing no sign of slowing down.
