The fianceé of Smash Mouth frontman Steve Harwell is seeking a restraining order against the musician. As TMZ reports, Ester Campbell has accused Harwell of “threatening behaviour” brought on by excessive drinking.

Campbell and Harwell got engaged last month, after dating for over a year. They were scheduled to move in together this week, but those plans dissolved after Harwell allegedly harrassed Campbell with text messages and phone calls. She has since called the engagement off until Harwell gets help.

Campbell has also detailed a royal stitch-up. She claims that Harwell ordered $7,000 repairs for a septic tank on her house when the pair were intending to move in together and has threatened to leave her with the debt in the knowledge that she can’t pay it.

As well as seeking a restraining order, Campbell is demanding that a judge order Harwell to attend rehab. I guess ‘All Star’ was in many ways, a self-fulfilling prophecy. The world is really out to roll you, huh Steve?

This is quite dissapointing news, as it completely shatters the illusion that Smash Mouth are the most wholesome man in music. An illusion that was spurred by their outspoken political believes in regards to homophobia and straight pride, and Neil DeGrasse Tyson’s tasteless gun control tweets.
