Just days before it was set to begin, Coachella has lost one of its biggest names, with Solange pulling the plug due to “production delays”.

Next weekend, we’ll see the first round of performances take place as part of the iconic Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

While the likes of Childish Gambino, Ariana Grande, and Tame Impala are headlining this year’s festivities, there are some pretty huge names to be found elsewhere on the bill.

However, with under a week to go before the first weekend of the festival begins, Solange has cancelled her appearance.

Taking to Twitter earlier today, the official Coachella account revealed the news to their legion of followers.

“Due to major production delays, Solange will unfortunately no longer be performing at this year’s festival,” they wrote.

“She sends her sincerest apologies, and looks forward to performing at Coachella in the future.”

While the sort of production delays that have resulted in Solange’s cancellation are unclear, this news comes just over a month from the release of her latest album, When I Get Home.

At this stage, it’s unknown whether or not Solange’s spot on the festival (which was set to take place just before Tame Impala’s on Sunday night) will be replaced by anyone, though organisers seem rather positive that she will be back in the future.

In related news, this weekend saw the death of a lead rigger at Coachella, with 49-year-old Christopher Griffin passing away after falling during the festival setup.

“Today, Goldenvoice lost a colleague, a friend, a family member,” explained promoter Goldenvoice in a statement. “Our friend fell while working on a festival stage.”

“It is with heavy hearts and tremendous difficulty that we confirm his passing. He has been with our team for 20 years in the desert and was doing what he loved.”

“He was a hard-working and loving person that cared deeply about his team. As our lead rigger, he was responsible for the countless incredible shows that have been put on at the festival. We will miss him dearly.”
