A new video for seminal David Bowie single ‘Space Oddity’ has been released in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the single, and the Apollo 11 Moon landing.

The video was remixed by longtime David Bowie collaborator Tony Visconti. It features archival, Tim Pope-directed footage of Bowie performing at his 50th birthday concert at Madison Square Garden in 1998. It also includes footage shot by choreographer Eduaord Lock for the backdrop of Bowie’s 1990 Sound and Vision tour.

The video premiered on Saturday at a NASA event at Washington, D.C.’s Kennedy Center — commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing.

In related news, earlier this month Mattel unveiled a special edition Barbie Doll, commemorating 50 years of ‘Space Oddity.’ The doll is decked out in Bowie’s signature Ziggy Stardust garb — sporting the signature sparkly space suit, platform boots and painted nails. The doll is also detailed with the golden circle makeup Bowie wore throughout 1972-1973. You can purchase it here.

In January, it was revealed that footage of the first-ever David Bowie performance as Ziggy Stardust had been discovered. The footage was thought to be lost forever, after it was accidentally wiped by a technician attempting to convert to performance to digital.

However, one fan captured the performance on a home video recorder. Over the years the tape has degraded, but restorations are in place to attempt to recover the footage.
