The Splendour In The Grass 2014 dates have been announced.
Australia’s biggest winter music festival has revealed the dates for its 2014 edition, once again taking place at Splendour’s North Byron Parklands site over three days at its permanent home in Yelgun.
Grab your diary, this year’s Splendour will take place on Friday 25th, Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th of July. Onsite camping will once again be available from Wednesday 23rd July.
The debut of the new 660-acre festival site at last year’s Splendour In The Grass wasn’t without its teething problems, organisers admitting issues with toilet queues, four/five-hour delays in transport, issues at VIP camping grounds, and other grumbles from punters. But after vowing to learn from the experience, the site was used for the first-ever Byron Bay leg of Falls Festival over New Year’s, with minimal fuss.
The highlight of the North Byron Parklands – the beautiful natural amphitheatre – has been confirmed by Splendour organisers to be a feature of the 2014 site layout.
The Splendour In The Grass 2014 lineups is still forthcoming, but there’s already been a healthy spin of the rumour mill to get music fans’ collective tongues wagging. The Splendour In The Grass 2014 lineups is still forthcoming, but there’s already been a healthy spin of the rumour mill…
Artists expected for the Splendour In The Grass 2014 lineup include Irish singer-songwriter James Vincent McMorrow and British electro trio London Grammar, who have both just concluded Australian tours and spoken about very likely returns for the winter music festival.
Both acts also recently made whistle-stop tours of Australia, presented by Splendour promoters Secret Sounds, which also puts Mikhael Paskalev – a new signee for associated Brisbane label Dew Process – up as another Splendour In The Grass 2014 contender. The Bulgarian song maverick is also due for a Secret Sounds-presented tour of Australia in March.
Singer/model/actress Sky Ferreira is also rumoured for Splendour, after saying in a radio interview: “I’m definitely coming in July for a festival, I think. I’m not quite sure [of the exact date], but it’s in my summer [Australia’s winter].”
The biggest name in the candidates for the Splendour In The Grass 2014 lineup is reunited hip hop duo Outkast. Big Boi and André 3000 are rumoured to headline following news they’ll be the “marquee act at over 40 festivals around the world” as part of a worldwide comeback tour which already has them locked in for US festivals Coachella and Firefly Music Festival (which both feature a bunch of Aussie bands coincidentally).
Speaking of the 2014 lineup, there’s actually a question mark hovering over who’s actually booking the bill after it was revealed last week that regular bookers Way Over There had shut up shop, causing a major shakeup to the Aussie live music scene.
Splendour In The Grass 2013 was also characterised by the last-minute cancellation of Frank Ocean, until Lorde swept in with a star-making replacement set (and the rest is history), while the eco-minded event scooped up an award from Britain’s A Greener Festival for its many environmentally friendly efforts – including offering Carbon Offset Tickets as well as patrols of Eco Cops to accommodate the 25,000 or so attendees.
