Adelaide rock legends The Superjesus will be hitting the road again later this year to promote their upcoming live album.

Back in 1994, a group of young South Aussie musicians formed a band they soon dubbed Hell’s Kitchen. Before long, the group were writing plenty of original tracks, tearing up live stages, and leaving audiences in absolute awe.

Changing their name to The Superjesus in early 1996, the group released their debut album Sumo in 1998, setting them apart as leaders of the Aussie alt-rock scene. Following a couple more albums and roughly a decade between drinks, the group reunited in 2013 and have performed sporadically since then.

Last year though, fans were lucky enough to catch the band on their 20th anniversary tour of Sumo. Now, these same fans (and those who missed out) will have a chance to relive all the excitement with a brand new live record from the tour.

“After smashing this set out night after night, it became obvious to us that we had become a pretty good band!” explained The Superjesus frontwoman Sarah McLeod.

“Three quarters of the way through the tour we decided that we should document where we were at, because it was surprising even us! Also, and more importantly, the crowds were singing along with us with enthusiasm like we’d never heard before.

“This shit needed to be recorded, so we set it up to film and record two shows.  We were playing two sets per night, set one was Sumo, set two was hits and rarities.

“We recorded set one at the Manning Bar in Sydney and set two at The Zoo in Brisbane and were stoked with how it came up.”

With the group set to release their live album on vinyl this September, they’ll also be celebrating the new release with a run of live shows. Kicking things off with an album launch in Perth, The Superjesus will be hitting up Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney, undoubtedly tearing roofs off the venues in the process.

To make things even more exciting though, The Superjesus will be supported by Melbourne’ Violetine – who are getting back together more than two decades after their last release. Cited as one of the group’s favourite bands to tour with, you can be sure that these shows will be a mighty celebration of Aussie rock.
