‘Pretty Lady’ is the first new music from Tash Sultana for 2020, and it has dropped today out of the blue, complete with a video featuring a stack of musicians showing off their own isolation spaces during the COVID-19 pandemic.
It’s the first track from Sultana since 2019 Matt Corby collab ‘Talk It Out’, and Corby has come on board again as a co-writer along with Dann Hume. ‘Pretty Lady’ sees Sultana combine some classic echoey vocals with delicate and intricate guitar.
Sultana says she used to loop the tune when she was busking back before she broke out onto radio with her debut album two years ago. “I’ve been trying to figure out how to write this song for like 6 years.
“I put the song in a box at the back of my mind and revisited it in November 2019,” she says “I had Dann Hume and Matt Corby spend some time in my studio and that’s when I decided to show them this song. It’s my first song I’ve collaborated with other players on.”
I’m leaking the first song off my new album this Thursday… some of you may remember it from back in my busking days…🌻 https://t.co/bRDyznfwld

The single will feature on Sultana’s second album FLOW STATE to be released later in 2020, and the singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist is set to head off on a world tour starting with Japan in May.
The clip itself has been created to reflect the state of the world at the moment, to inject some fun into people’s isolation routines, and show off the diversity of spaces that people are social distancing.
It features members of the Teskey Brothers, Pierce Brothers, as well as professional dancers Emily Havae, Melissa Pham, Justin Anderson, Ash McKenzie & Matt Holly, and Thalia Heffernan & Ryan McShane. In addition, Anna Seymour performs Auslan, plus Tash’s friends and family join in the fun.

It’s a relief to hear Tash Sultana back in fine form, after she indicated last year she’d be wrapping up the solo part of her music career towards the end of 2019.
