It might be the race that stops the nation, but the Melbourne Cup is likely to be less about the horses this year, and more about one special guest.

In what could be the biggest coup for the Melbourne Cup in terms of their carnival performers, Taylor Swift has been nabbed for their 2019 event. It will be Taylor’s only Australian gig and appearance off the back of the release of her latest album, Lover.

Speaking with Ash London in Paris earlier in the week, Taylor confirmed she would be Down Under sooner rather than later.

“Why wouldn’t I?” she told London during their interview. “You guys are a blast! I’ll pop down to see you guys, in the next few months I’ll be around!”

The release of Lover has already racked up over a billion streams in Australia and has clocked in at her fifth #1 album on the ARIA Charts.

Anyone who has bought a general admission ticket to this year’s Melbourne Cup at Melbourne’s Flemington Racecourse on Tuesday, November 5th, will have the chance to see her perform.

For all the other fans not attending, fret not, Taylor’s two song performance will be broadcast in full on Network 10.
