Due to the avalanche of American supporters for political movement the Tea Party who log onto teaparty.com the Canadian band who own the site – The Tea Party, founded by Jeff Martin – are contemplating offloading the web address for a sweet million bucks.
The political movement, which had early champions in Sarah Palin and Fox News, claims to represent the American people in demanding U.S. Congress account for its national debt figures.
Tea Party bassist Stuart Chatwood told BusinessWeek, “We’ve considered lending the name to [influential political satirists] Stephen Colbert or Jon Stewart to have them dispel some of the stuff that the Tea Party says. As Canadians, we’re somewhat sensitive to all the criticism of socialized medicine.” To this end the band added the slogan “No politics…Just Rock and Roll” to their homepage, which, tellingly has no tour dates listed whatsoever.
But the suggestion from Warren Adelman of the web hosting company GoDaddy.com that the site could “expect to go for well over $1 million” saw band sheepishly allude to their position by responding, “We’ve got families…” presumably an indication that they might like the cash.
