Following a wild couple of weeks, Tekashi 6ix9ine has released his debut album, despite currently being locked up in prison.
Over the weekend, it was announced that Tekashi 6ix9ine’s debut album – DUMMY BOY – had leaked online after briefly being made available for purchase from his website.
This occurred just two days after the album’s originally-planned release date, and four days after the rapper’s management confirmed it was being delayed in light of his recent legal troubles.
While it wasn’t clear who was responsible for the leak, suspicion turned to producer Murda Beatz, who this week shared a since-deleted Instagram post that showed off the album’s cover, and was captioned with the phrase, “I HAVE THE ALBUM SHOULD I…..”
Despite all these controversies, the album has now been officially released, with DJ Akademiks – a close friend of 6ix9ine – breaking the news on Twitter earlier today.
“Tekashi 6ix9ine album DUMMY BOY will be officially released in a few hours to all major outlets,” wrote DJ Akademiks.
“This is the decision of Tekashi himself who despite being disappointed about its leak & his current situation wants his fans to enjoy his music. He says he loves and misses his fans.”

While the 13-track record is now available on streaming services, some fans have pointed out an odd connection to rock music, noting the opening riff to the Kanye West-featuring ‘KANGA’ seems to imitate Rage Against The Machine’s ‘Killing In The Name’.
Currently, Tekashi 6ix9ine is in protective custody, having pleaded not guilty to federal charges of racketeering earlier this week. While his trial has been set for September of 2019, if found guilty, the rapper could be facing life in prison.
At this stage, it’s not clear whether the record’s awkward, yet highly-publicised release will contribute or detract from its popularity, but it’s clear that 6ix9ine isn’t in a prime position to check out all the reviews the album is receiving.
