Defeater drummer Joe Longobardi is the newest member of Brisbane outfit The Amity Affliction.

When original drummer Ryan Burt left the group in 2016 citing mental health, with the issue of psychological struggle and well-being becoming a major theme of this years LP Misery.

The band announced the news today on their social media, including promo shots of the bands new lineup that is set to become a fixture of the global touring scene.

“We’ve been speaking with Joe for a long, long time, however his touring commitments with Defeater meant that he couldn’t join as soon as we wanted him to” said the band.

“Fast forward to recording, Joe came into the studio and absolutely smashed it, and we had a fucking amazing time with him there. We offered him the spot again, and lucky for us he said yes.”

Longobardi has long been one of the most respected hardcore drummers around today, known for breaking the mold with his work across Defeater’s diverse and expansive back catalog.

The band have had numerous fill-in’s since the departure of Burt, with Plini (and various other Djent projects) drummer Troy Wright even stepping in for a hit.
