The Barking Spiders have announced a rare headline show

It's an event that happens only once in a blood moon, with mysterious rockers The Barking Spiders getting back together for a one-off gig.

It’s an event that happens only once in a blood moon, with mysterious rockers The Barking Spiders getting back together for a one-off gig.

Cast your mind back to the ’70s for a moment, and you might recall frequent appearances of a pub rock outfit called The Barking Spiders.

As raucous as they were talented, the group made quite a splash on the live scene, appearing from time to time as mythical figures on the Aussie rock scene.

But just who were these mysterious rockers? Rumours abounded that they were in fact a classic outfit from Adelaide, a rumour compounded only by their appearance before shows by these South Aussie musicians, and the fact that their name adorned a live album by Cold Chisel back in 1984.

While these facts seemed pretty damning, both acts refused to comment, and The Barking Spiders took their leave from the Aussie rock scene in 1983, not appearing again until 2018, when they played a one-off show to a capacity crowd at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre.

Now, The Barking Spiders have once again emerged for a one-off show at Sydney’s Factory Theatre on December 28th. Famously described as “a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma”, all the questions will hopefully be answered later this month.

With tickets on sale now, the mysterious band will also be joined by Sydney post-punk outfit, 100, who have signed binding NDA agreements, meaning they won’t be able to fill you in with any details about just who The Barking Spiders are either.

Of course, it does seem odd that this news comes out just one day before the release of Cold Chisel’s Blood Moon album (their first since 2015), and the fact that this one-off show takes place just days before Cold Chisel hit the road as part of their Blood Moon tour

Huh, must just be a huge coincidence, eh?
