Charlton Kenneth Jeffrey Howard, also known as The Kid LAROI, has become the highest placing Indigenous Australian artist in the history of triple j‘s Hottest 100.
‘Stay’, his track with Justin Bieber, finished second in this year’s Hottest 100 countdown, and has surged in popularity on popular music app TikTok.
This year’s Hottest 100 was packed full of great tracks and artists, making Howard’s achievement even sweeter.
Of course, the top triple j story is the fact that the Wiggles (yes, our childhood faves the Wiggles) took out the top spot.
Spacey Jane came in third place with ‘Lots of Nothing’, and Doja Cat and Olivia Rodrigo tied for most songs in the countdown this year.
The Kia LAROI is a Kamilaroi man with his stage name being derived from the name of his country.
Due to him charting at number two this year, he has now overtaken the previously highest placing First Nations artist Thelma Plum, who hit number 9 on the 2019 countdown.
