Australian rock icons The Meanies will be hitting the road this year, celebrating 30 years together, and 25 years since the release of the legendary 10% Weird.
No matter how you look at it, The Meanies are a perfect example of one of the most influential yet underrated rock bands on the Aussie scene.
Forming back in 1988, the group had moved to the live stage by 1989, and released their first single by 1990. Before long, they would find themselves touring alongside huge names like Nirvana, the Beastie Boys, Pearl Jam, Bad Brains, and The Lemonheads.
While even punk legends like Frenzal Rhomb consider them an influence, it was 1994’s 10% Weird that truly put The Meanies on the map, serving as watershed moment for Aussie rock, and helping the band become household names in the process.
Now, 25 years on from the iconic record’s release, The Meanies have announced that they’ll be hitting the road to celebrate the album’s quarter-century, the band’s 30th, and – as they put it – “probably a few other milestones”.
Kicking off with a Melbourne Cup Day matinee gig on November 5th, the band will hit the road, touring through Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, and Western Australia, before wrapping it up with a Brisbane show at the end of the month.
Along the way, the group will be joined by a veritable who’s-who of music, including Tumbleweed, Civic, Glitoris and Dicklord at various shows. Check out all the details below!
