Sure we’ve heard about you before, but we think it’s time for Tone Deaf to get to know you a little better. Slip in to something comfortable while we put on some music, pour us a couple of drinks and turn the lights down low. So, tell us about yourselves…Who are you – who who? We really wanna know….
Who are you and what do you do in your act?
Alexa, lead guitar and backing vocals live. On recordings add keyboards to that. Resident red head.
‘Fess up. What records have you stolen from your parent’s record collection and why?
Hmm the likes of Travelling Wilburys, Creedence, Billy Joel and the Eagles. I stole a few of The Beatles records too until I bought my own copies. Each of these bands I told my dad I hated only because he liked them.
What’s on heavy rotation on your iPod right now?
Right now, Velociraptor by Kasabian, well any Kasabian, also I’ve been listening to a lot of Oasis lately and always the Killers, I have a slight crush on Brandon Flowers. Nothing weird; like it’s not as though he’s the background on my phone or anything.

‘Home taping is killing the music business was the catch-cry of the record industry in the 1970s, but it managed to survive until now. What do you think is the difference between mates taping copies of friend’s records back in the 80s and 90s and file sharing now?
I guess one of those friends had to buy the tape, so it was swapping and literally sharing music more-so than just flat out stealing it. Everyone wants everything for free these days; trust me I work in retail.
You must answer this question honestly or we steal your rider. What was the first gig you went to.?Where was it and what was the venue?
Oh I actually have a sort of cool answer to this one! I was in grade 5 and it was Deep Purple at Rod Laver Arena, went with my immediate family, was really cool.
What’s your favourite site to download music from and do you ever pay for it? Can we find any of your releases there?
Honestly the last time I downloaded music I downloaded some Trojan virus so I steer well away from that. Even more embarrassing was I was downloading a P Diddy song, Diddy whatever. That and if I really like a band I want the actual physical CD for sentimental value. I do use iTunes from time to time and we’re not on it yet but hopefully very soon.
What artist made you want to pick up an instrument and/or sing?
Originally it was my Grandpa, he was a full time musician he played the pedal steel guitar in a country band called the Hawking Brothers. Though it wasn’t my thing it made me want to learn an instrument which happened to be piano. I started playing guitar at about 16 though because I was obsessed with RHCP, so I credit John Frusciante for switching me to guitar.
Have you ever been arrested?
Nah, I’m a good girl, but if I were to be for anything those who know me well would say it would most likely be for indecent exposure.
Do you have any particular ritual before you go on stage, or even a lucky charm you take with you?
Not really, I guess I just have a drink to settle any nerves. Oh I only like to play on the right hand side of the stage.
What’s been your most outrageous rider request?
At this point we’re ecstatic if we get a free drink! If I had any pulling power though I’d probably request something like solid gold toilet seats, no actually naked men to serve us drinks.
Because it’s more fun to do things together, which living Australian artist would you most like to collaborate with? Tell us why?
That’s an easy one, I don’t listen to as much Aussie music as I should so I’d have to say Wagons. I just don’t think there could be a more fun band to share the stage with. I love Henry’s extremely baritone voice.
Right, let’s get really intimate. Tell us what releases you have that we can listen to with the lights down low, or even better, where we can see you play in person next.
Well actually, we launched our first E.P on Saturday December 10 at Revolver and played Cherry on Christmas Eve so now we will have the EPs available at all our shows from now on! Befriend us on Facebook to find out about our next gigs and check out the tunes on triple j Unearthed.
