If you’re an aspiring musician in Brisbane and looking to make waves, then you’re in luck. The QUBE Effect, run by the Brisbane City Council has returned, and it’s time for you to apply!

There are some seriously impressive prizes on offer, including invaluable networking and support from some of the best in the Australian music industry. If that’s not enough, there’s also a paid performance at one of Australia’s biggest music festivals – Splendour in the Grass. On top of that, there’s BIGSOUND passes, cash prizes, studio recording sessions and more!

The QUBE Effect is a money can’t buy program, and has seen many success stories. Here are some of our favourites:

Salmon and The Peaches

One of the most notable success is Salmon and The Peaches. The duo make dreamy, ethereal music, and found success after entering The QUBE Effect, with a support slot for Sarah Blasko at the Tivoli, which they say was “an opportunity afforded to us from The QUBE Effect.”

It’s not just the tangible benefits of The QUBE Effect that they enjoyed, however. The program helps to surround young musicians with like-minded people, which can help everyone grow together.

The band pointed this out, saying that being part of The QUBE Effect “meant an opportunity to meet other young people we may have never met otherwise, who are also working hard to create something new.”

Salmon and the Peaches have been busy recently, dropping a new single, At The Movies. You can check it out here.  They’ll also be performing during BrisAsia at QPAC, which you won’t want to miss.

This year is sure to be a big one for Salmon and The Peaches!

The Beamish Boys

No matter what you’re looking to get out of participating in The QUBE Effect, you’re sure to find it.

The Beamish Boys are a sibling duo who hail from Toowoomba. The duo used The QUBE Effect to help them with getting a high-quality recording of their live set, as well as a high-quality music video.

The program helped them develop their visuals, as well as gain ideas and knowledge for future videos, saying, “we gained the ability to think creatively about what we want our visuals and brand to look like in our video.”

The program even helped the band build off the success of tours of Spain and the US.

2019 is shaping up to be a big year for the duo. The Beamish Boys are currently working as full-time singer-songwriters, and preparing for their next release.

They’re also booking an upcoming tour – so there’s a lot happening. You can stay up to date with them here, as there will no doubt be new music on the way – as well as some live shows!

Harmon

Harmon is a solo act, and applying for The QUBE Effect allowed him to experience new musical experiences, including producing a live music video, as well as attending BIGSOUND. However, it wasn’t just these experiences that Harmon got out of the program, and he echoed the sentiment of Salmon and the Peaches, and say the program really helped with making other musically-inclined friends.

“I gained a further motivation to take my music more seriously as a career, and helped me make new friends, which was nice,” said Harmon Ferrett.

The program helps acts to build up their support network, introducing those who take part to like-minded participants. It also allows acts to form bonds with their industry mentors, which continue long after the program is over.

You can keep up with Harmon here, and make sure to check out a live show soon, as that’s one of his focuses for 2019!

There’s a lot of other plans for this year from the soloist, as he’s currently planning new music video and song releases for 2019.

Other acts that have taken part in the program have gone on to have a headline performance at BIGSOUND 2018, receive a national deal with Universal Music, tour the USA and much, much more.
Shortlisted acts get to take part in workshops, film their own music video, and learn how to take their act to the next level. The program is in its 5th year, and is undoubtedly a career-making program for many artists.

If you’re looking to take part in the QUBE Effect, and follow in the footsteps of bands like Salmon and The Peaches, Beamish Boys and Harmon, then don’t waste any time. It’s a six month program, and an expert panel of high profile artists, managers and producers will shortlist 24 artists to take part.
