New York music legends The Rapture are getting back together, announcing their first shows since 2012.
Forming back in 1998, The Rapture found themselves becoming staples of the New York City live scene within just a matter of years.
After teaming up with the DFA Records team (including Tim Goldsworthy and LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy), the group released ‘House Of Jealous Lovers’, a club banger that well and truly put them on the map.
Over the years, the group released a handful of albums, and even cracked the Hottest 100 in 2008 with their catchy number ‘No Sex For Ben’. However, following a tour in support of their 2011 album In the Grace of Your Love, the group silently parted ways, not even informing fans until 2014.
In the ensuing years, it became clear that there was some hurt feelings that went into the breakup, with frontman Luke Jenner pointing towards his strained relationship with drummer Vito Roccoforte.
Now, much like James Murphy and LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture are getting back together.
As Pitchfork reports, The Rapture have officially announced their first live shows since 2012, with performances at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg (the same place as their last show), and the Just Like Heaven festival in April and May.
Taking to Facebook, Luke Jenner explained that The Rapture’s members have settled their differences and are eager to hit the road again.
“So it’s been a long time since The Rapture did anything,” Jenner began. “It’s been this long gritty road trying to figure out how to be a father and a husband which seemed a lot more important than standing on stage in front of anyone.”
“We went to therapy, we talked it out, it’s still a little weird, but I couldn’t do it if I didn’t feel like it was gonna be some kinda personal progress.”
“Anyway, I hope there is a long future for us and we can build something new. Maybe you will join us someplace along the way again.”
At this stage, it’s too early to tell whether The Rapture’s reunion will result in some Australian shows, but if so, it would mark the band’s first trip down under since the Future Music Festival in early 2012.
