Melbourne’s very own “euphoric pop icons” Crayon Fields recently dropped their impressive LP No One Deserves You – a delicious follow-up to their 2009 effort All the Pleasures Of the World.
Out via Chapter Music, this new LP is a welcome return for the technicolor pop masters who after a number of international tours took a break which ultimately became a six year hiatus of sorts.
To celebrate the release of No One Deserves You Crayon Fields frontman Geoffrey O’Connor took us inside the record with this track by track. Check it out (with upcoming show dates) below and if you like what you’re hearing be sure to visit the band’s Facebook page for more info.
Slow Magic
“In the future there will be a controlled substance known as ‘Slow Magic’ and I really hope I don’t get stuck talking to someone at a party who has just dropped it. Unfortunately, I think that kind of person is the kind of person the subject of this song would be prone to dating.”
She’s My Hero
“Many of these songs are about admiring the ways in which people go about their endlessly entertaining lives. This one is about one of my best friends and all-time heroes.”
Love Won’t Save You
“A fast song about living in the moment and all that jazz, comforted by the fact that there is no one thing that your happiness is dependent on.”
No One Deserves You
“Sometimes it takes five syncopated funky guitar tracks to convey to someone that they are too good for the people they keep getting involved with.”
If I Could
“A song about the survival of chivalry in the modern world and dog shows.”
Night Moves
“This one is about looking back, doing the math and remembering that for all you know you’ve had as good a time as anyone.”
Give Him Nothing
“A song about a couple who are definitely going to break up after they’ve spent all their money on a holiday. I’m sure they live on happily in the arms of many others.”
So Do I
“Another song about a couple’s final holiday together. In this one both people involved sort of want to go back there though.”
Somewhere Good
“A song about someone leaving you for a… long holiday. It’s about pretending you are really happy for them because you are pretty sure you will feel that way eventually anyway and they have a lot of money.”
Good Times
“I just realised these are all optimistic breakup songs. This one is about a holiday. I really need to go on tour.”
