Following four years of performing live and intensive songwriting Brisbane born Sinead Burgess has just released her stunning EP Wolf Island Records.

Recorded in New York with Justin King and is influenced heavily by artists such as Florence & the Machine, Kate Bush and Tori Amos, Wolf is an impressive introduction to a pop name we’ll be hearing a lot more of in 2016.

To celebrate its release, Burgess has kindly penned a track by track taking us inside the record. Check it out below and if you like what you’re hearing be sure to visit Sinead’s Facebook page for more info.

WOLF

‘Wolf’ was the first track written for my EP in New York with my producer Justin King. This song really set the tone for the sound of the record. It’s about people being in your life for the wrong reasons, the ‘wolves in sheep’s clothing’. It is learning to find my feet & not to take shit from anyone.

DUBLIN

Dublin is about the innocent beauty in an illogical infatuation. A whirlwind, one-sided feeling that was so intense, it’s almost hard to believe you felt it. But once it is gone, it leaves you dazed, confused & a little hungover.

OUTLAW

I wrote this song about being so immersed in an electrifying love that you know is wrong for you in every way. When all logical signs point to waking away, but you can’t. You become magnetized, partners in crime.

BONES

This is a song of severance. From toxic relationships & negativity- it’s knowing when to cut your ties and set yourself free.

TOP OF THE WORLD

The theme of Top Of The World is taking off the “brave face”, and admitting the grass isn’t always greener when you appear to be doing well. It’s about learning the hard way that loneliness can be felt when surrounded by a room of people.

PSYCHO

I once had a guy jokingly call me a “psycho” after describing my idea of how love should feel. At the time, I was crushed, and began to think that I had unrealistic expectations. Until I realized that if craving a love that didn’t feel lukewarm & static was crazy, I was happy to be. ‘Psycho’ reasons that just because your desires don’t fit one person, doesn’t mean they aren’t right to someone else.

FICKLE HEART

This is one of the simplest & most honest songs I’ve ever written. Co-writing & performing it with one of my best friends, Tom Jordan, we talk of the kind of dying love that makes you feel numb. The one you fight every day for & wish the other person could just meet you half way. “Tell me how can I get through to your fickle heart…”
