Another week has passed, and triple j have spent it doing what they do best – delivering endless hit tunes by a wide variety of brilliant artists from both here and abroad. Of course, with so many songs being played in a week, it can get pretty tough to know the artists that have been the most popular.
Well, thanks to our friends over at J Play, you don’t have to worry about not knowing who the most popular artists on triple j are each week any more.

20. G Flip
G Flip has taken over the world of Aussie music in the last few months thanks to brilliant tunes like ‘About You’ and ‘Killing My Time’, which is this week’s 13th most-played track. Now, having recently played her debut Aussie shows, this stunning musician is well on her way to taking over the world.
19. Amy Shark
Amy Shark has had one heck of a musical journey over the last couple of years, so it’s only fitting that she choose this time in her career to release that long-awaited debut album. With Love Monster set for release next month, tracks like ‘I Said Hi’ and ‘Don’t Turn Around’ have been doing the rounds lately, and they’re only getting us more excited for that debut LP to drop.
18. DMA’s
DMA’s recently returned with their latest album, For Now, and fans have been loving the group’s Britpop-infused tunes. With ‘Do I Need You Now?’ currently the seventh most-played track on the station this week, the group are undoubtedly on track for another amazing year.
17. Peking Duk
Having recently dropped two new tracks (but no full-length album yet – what gives, guys?), Peking Duk are on track to absolutely dominate this year as well. With ‘Fire’ currently this week’s ninth most-played track, it won’t be long before these lads score themselves another high spot on this year’s Hottest 100.
16. West Thebarton
Adelaide’s West Thebarton recently dropped their absolutely stunning debut album, Different Beings Being Different, and it’s easily one of the greatest Aussie records of the year. Obviously, triple j listeners think so too, with ‘Stuck On You’ recently scoring the honour of being one of the station’s most-played track (and remember, it’s ‘Thebarton’ not ‘The Barton’).

15. Courtney Barnett
Courtney Barnett recently made her full-blown return to the charts with her second album, Tell Me How You Really Feel, and listeners have been lapping up every single song from the record. With tracks like ‘Nameless, Faceless’ and ‘Need A Little Time’ still doing the rounds, this is certainly not the last you’ve heard from ol’ Courts.
14. Anderson .Paak
It’s been two years since we received Anderson .Paak’s last album, Malibu, but now, he’s returned with new singles ‘Til It’s Over’ and ‘Bubblin’, the latter of which is this week’s eleventh most-played track. The first taste of this acclaimed muso’s new album, Oxnard Ventura, fans have been loving the slick tunes that he delivers.
13. Phantastic Ferniture
Julia Jacklin’s side project Phantastic Ferniture are gearing up to release their debut album next month, and triple j listeners clearly think the group are indeed phantastic. With a lineup that also features the likes of Liz Hughes and Ryan K Brennan, the group’s killer tune ‘Fuckin’ ‘n’ Rollin’ is currently this week’s twelfth most-played jam.
12. Arctic Monkeys
After five years away from the game, Arctic Monkeys recently returned with their latest album, Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, a few weeks ago. A bit of a stylistic shift for the group, it hasn’t stopped them smashing UK sales records and serving as a new favourite for the group’s dedicated fans around the world. You can be certain that the Arctic Monkeys are set to score a high placing in next year’s Hottest 100 when it rolls around in January.
11. Rudimental
Rudimental are gearing up to release their first album in three years, Toast To Our Differences, in September, and they’ve been releasing a few new tunes in anticipation. With their leatest, the album’s title track, currently the fifth most-played tune on the station this week, you haven’t heard the last of Rudimental just yet.
10. Jack River
After plenty of time giving us some sweet tunes, Jack River is gearing up to release her debut album, Sugar Mountain, this week. While tracks like ‘Ballroom’ have been doing the rounds in recent months, ‘Limo Song’ is the latest cut to make listeners fall in love with this stunning muso. Needless to say, we can’t wait to hear this new record!
9. The Presets
The Presets recently released their first album in almost six years, Hi Viz, and fans have been loving everything they’ve heard. Full of the brilliant hits that we’ve come to know and love from the lads, the album is on track to be one of the year’s biggest, with ‘Downtown Shutdown’ recently serving as the station’s most-played track.
8. Ziggy Alberts
Ziggy Alberts has been on the scene for a few years now, making a name for himself as one of the most chilled and breezy musos out there. With ‘Love Me Now’ currently serving as this week’s fourth most-played track, you can be certain that you’ll be hearing plenty more of Ziggy Alberts in the months to come.
7. Ocean Alley
Having won fans all over the world with the release of their brilliant single ‘The Comedown’, last year, Ocean Alley released their debut album, Chiaroscuro, a while back now. Having also served as triple j’s feature album, Chiaroscuro showcases the group’s slick jams and stunning sound, with listeners continuing to love everything they hear from this amazing collective.
6. Hayden James
Hayden James has returned and has taken the airwaves by storm in the process. With ’Just Friends’ currently doing the rounds on the station this week and currently serving as the third most-played track, the future is looking bright once again for this exceptionally talented musician.
5. Rüfüs Du Sol
Rüfüs recently made their big comeback to the world of Aussie music, dropping a taste of their new album with ‘No Place’, and formally announcing they’re to be known as Rüfüs Du Sol from here on out. A rose by any other name certainly does smell as sweet, because ‘No Place’ has been tearing up the airwaves enough to be given the honour of this week’s second most-played track.
4. Mallrat
We recently saw Mallrat and Allday team up to deliver ‘UFO’, the product of two of Australia’s best modern hip-hop luminaries coming together to serve up an absolute belter of a track. Now Mallrat has released her latest EP, In The Sky, and it has been going gangbusters on the airwaves, with ‘Groceries’ becoming this week’s most-played track.
3. Vera Blue
Vera Blue had an absolutely stunning 2018 thanks to a number of brilliant cuts from her debut album, Perennial, tearing up the airwaves over the last year. While none of her tracks have made it into this week’s most-played list, it just goes to show how popular her brilliant tunes are with eager triple j listeners.
2. Confidence Man
They might be one of the most divisive groups in recent times, but there’s no denying the fun that Confidence Man throw into the music that they make. Recently serving as triple j’s feature album, Confidence Man have been scoring plenty of airplay thanks to their stunning collection of dance-pop gems.
1. Cosmo’s Midnight
After plenty of time spent keeping us waiting, Cosmo’s Midnight recently released their stunning debut album, What Comes Next. Full of brilliant tunes and having served as the station’s Feature Album, the twin-brother duo have finally given listeners a full collection of their slick tunes. With the group gearing up for a national tour next month, you can be sure that you’ll be hearing plenty more from these two in the future.
