Indie royalty Vampire Weekend have teamed up with Danielle Haim to deliver a rousing rendition of the Thin Lizzy classic, ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’.

It’s been just over a week since Vampire Weekend hit up Aussie shores to blow our minds at this year’s edition of Splendour In The Grass. While punters sadly didn’t get to hear any new tracks from the New York City trio, they did however get an education what makes Vampire Weekend one of the best live acts going around.

Now, after having jetted off from Australia, the group hit up Japan for this year’s Fuji Rock Festival where they were joined by a special guest for an extra special cover.

While recent live shows by Vampire Weekend have been featuring a brief cover of The Beatles’ ‘Here Comes The Sun’ during performances of ‘Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa’, the group decided to bring out Haim singer Danielle Haim for a stunning cover of Thin Lizzy’s ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’.

Following this stunning cover, the group also convinced Haim to stick around to join them for their final song, with the Los Angeles guitarist guesting on a huge rendition of ‘Obvious Bicycle’.

As it stands, it’s been a few years since Vampire Weekend last graced us with a new record. While the band recently made their return to the live stage for the first time in four years, fans are getting pretty hopeful we’ll be seeing a new album on the way sometime soon.

Back in September, frontman Ezra Koenig noted that the group’s fourth album (which was tentatively titled Mitsubishi Macchiato) was about “80% done”, but since then, there haven’t been too many updates.

While we might not know when the new album by the group is set to drop, we can definitely take solace that there might be a few more cover versions in their live sets in the meantime.
