It’s starting to look as though Vampire Weekend’s long-awaited fourth album could be arriving just next month, with Sony promising a “noteworthy project” from the group to be released soon.

January of this year marked ten years since the release of Vampire Weekend’s self-titled debut record. Since then, the group have released a further two records, with their latest, Modern Vampires Of The City, being unleashed back in May of 2013. Since then, well, things have been a little on the quiet side.

While no new music has ben released since 2013, the group haven’t exactly been kicking back with their feet up, with founding member Rostam Batmanglij departing in 2016, and the group reportedly in talks to sign with Columbia Records.

However, over the last year, rumours of a new record have been heating up, with frontman Ezra Koenig revealing back in May that their new album – which was tentatively titled Mitsubishi Macchiato – was “94.5%” done.

Since then, the group have returned to the live stage, debuted a new song, and even teamed up with Danielle Haim recently to perform a live cover of Thin Lizzy’s ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’. Needless to say, fans are getting pretty keen for new music to drop, but it sounds like we won’t be waiting too much longer.

As Billboard reports, Sony revealed their quarterly financial statement recently, which announces – among other things – that Vampire Weekend are officially on the Sony roster, ending their long relationship with XL Recordings.

However, the thing that has fans the most excited is that Sony also outlines a list of “noteworthy projects” that are set to be released in Q3 (which ends on September 30th). Among this list of projects just so happens to be an as-yet-unnamed Vampire Weekend record, meaning that album number four should be in our hot little hands by the end of September.

While Vampire Weekend recently hit up Australia for an exclusive show at Splendour In The Grass, eager fans sadly weren’t treated to any new music. With the group apparently gearing up to drop a new record, there’s every chance we might end up seeing a fully-fledged tour in support of the new album. We can only hope.
