From Triple J metal representative Lochlan Watt and High Tension guitarist Mike Deslandes comes R U N, a savage new metal outfit, with one hell of a debut single in tow.

For You, the first taste of what this project will sound like, combines the atmospherics and blast beats of Deafheaven with the crusty blackened punk tones on Deslandes’ other projects, an absolute gift for Aussie metalheads looking for something a bit different.

“There are several meanings tied up in For You – it is a song born from extreme emotional pain, but it is also a song that looks forward while standing firm,” explained Watt, who himself has been recovering from brain cancer recently.

“It wasn’t written for others… it was written for the self, and where you take it from there is up to you.”

In addition to hosting The Racket on Triple J, Lochlan Watt is no stranger to fronting quality acts, having handled vocal duties for Thy Art Is Murder for a year, in addition to fronting Psycroptic and a host of his own original projects.

On the other hand, while Deslandes hasn’t been super active with High Tension lately, the band are still basking in the glow of releasing one of the strongest local albums in recent memory.

Their recent 3rd LP Purge dealt with themes of political upheaval from front-woman Karina Utomo’s homeland of Indonesia via some of the most ferocious riffs you’ll ever hear, and saw the band tour with The Bronx and appear at Download Festival in support.
