Mariah Carey has uploaded a video of herself covering George Michael’s 1988 hit single ‘One More Try’ at the Dubai Jazz Festival.

The performance took place in February, but this is the first time it has been made available.

“I always loved it, I always loved him. He was a really great person,” Carey tells the audience, “So we’ll make it through this.”

Carey first covered the song on her 2014 album Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse. It was a live favourite of Michael’s, and an unusual American #1 single for the singer in 1988, being both a ballad over six minutes in length, and the fifth single to be pulled from his debut album.

Shortly after Michael’s death, Carey posted the following tribute:

“George was not only a great musician, he was an active ambassador in the LBGTQ community, pushing for greater understanding, acceptance, and love for all people. He touched so many lives and inspired us all. ‘One More Try’ on Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse is a tribute to his influence, in many ways.

“George Michael was an original. He changed music and his music changed lives. We’ll continue to mourn the loss of an incredible artist and friend but his music will keep us smiling and dancing, forever.”
