After years of smoking doinks, Willie Nelson has finally admitted defeat. The 86-year-old legend has revealed that he has quit smoking the devil’s lettuce as a result of ongoing health issues.

“I have abused my lungs quite a bit in the past, so breathing is a little more difficult these days and I have to be careful,” Wilson explained.

“I started smoking cedar bark, went from that to cigarettes to whatever. And that almost killed me.”

Breathing issues have been the downfall of Nelson over the past few years, causing him to cancel a number of tour dates. In August Nelson was forced to cancel the remaining 30 dates of his tour as a result of a breathing problem.

“To my fans, I’m sorry to cancel my tour, but I have a breathing problem that I need to have my doctor check out. I’ll be back,” he wrote in a statement at the time.

Earlier this year Nelson revealed that he had given up smoking darts in order to preserve his health.

“I used to smoke two or three packs of cigarettes a day and drank whatever there was there to drink and I had pneumonia four or five times, my lung collapsed, I almost died,” he shared with Rolling Stone.  “So I said, ‘Wait a minute, I ain’t getting that high off of Chesterfields,’ so I threw out the cigarettes, rolled up 20 joints, stuck it in there, and I haven’t had a cigarette since.”

Don’t worry though, Nelson will still be getting his highly coveted dose of CBD in other ways. Reports confirm that he is partial to a vape and cannabis-infused edibles. Willie, we’re so supportive of you ushering in a new era of good health.
