US rapper YNW Melly is currently facing two counts of first-degree murder as police believe the artist might have faked a drive-by on the night of the crime.
Back in June of 2018, Florida rapper YNW Melly (real name Jamell Maurice Demons) burst onto the scene with his debut single, ‘Murder On Mind’. According to police, this track might have been more telling than you’d think, with the artist recently being arrested in relation to just that.
A fortnight ago, Melly was arrested by police and charged with two counts of murder, relating to a 2018 shooting of two aspiring rappers.
These men, 21-year-old Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams and 19-year-old Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas Jr., where shot in October in what was initially described as a drive-by shooting.
Melly’s friend YNW Bortlen (also known as Cortlen Henry) reportedly drove the two men to a nearby hospital, claiming they had been attacked in a drive-by shooting by unknown individuals. Unfortunately, both victims succumbed to their wounds later that night.

However, as Complex notes, police now believe the rapper not only faked the drive-by shooting, but also drove around with the bodies of the deceased in his car for some time.
While the initial story told to police indicated that YNW Melly was not in the car when another vehicle drove up beside them and opened fire, a further investigation now says otherwise.
According to court reports, an autopsy revealed that “both victims’ wound paths to their heads were from a left to right direction”, meaning that this does not support the evidence offered up by Cortlen Henry that they were shot in a drive-by.
Investigators have also reviewed surveillance footage and phone records, placing both Cortlen Henry and YNW Melly together at the time of the incident, and revealing they believe the two men drove around with the victims’ bodies in their vehicle for some time before taking them to the hospital.
As it stands, both Cortlen Henry and YNW Melly have been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and are currently awaiting trial.
