Earlier this month Lady Gaga announced her return to music, which will be ushered in by none other than Tame Impala chief Kevin Parker. Parker co-produced ‘Perfect Illusion’, Gaga’s new single, which doesn’t yet have an official release date.

However, that hasn’t stopped it from already topping charts. Gaga announced the single via Twitter and fans of the pop star and Tame Impala immediately went into overdrive and pretty soon it was a trending topic, spearheaded by the hashtags #PerfectIllusion and #LG5.

That traction led the single to topping the Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks and Billboard + Twitter Trending charts this week. The two charts measure the level of buzz a single’s been generating on Twitter and clearly ‘Perfect Illusion’ is arriving on a wave of hype.

While the exact release date of ‘Perfect Illusion’ is not yet known, Pitchfork has revealed that both Mark Ronson and BloodPop (formerly known as Blood Diamonds) are also listed as a co-producers.

Whether this means that Lady Gaga is taking on a new psych-rock approach to her new music remains to be seen, but we can definitely say she has entrusted production to some of the safest hands in music today.

Parker has previously spoken about his desire to increase his production workload and to transition into more pop production and his collab with Gaga is not his first foray into the pop world in recent memory, having been covered by Rihanna on her latest album.

Exciting times my friends..
