The Smith Street Band recently announced the completing of their eagerly anticipated new album, a follow-up to the critically acclaimed tour-de-force that was 2014’s Throw Me In The River and now they’re ready to drop the first single.

“Please listen to Good Nights on triple j from 6pm tonight if you’d like hear a new song from us, for the first time ever!” the band wrote on their official Facebook page this morning. This means it’s likely we’ll have a proper release soon.

It was only two months ago that The Smith Street Band packed up their bags and departed Footscray to set up camp in a studio and begin work on a new record. They later took to social media to share a snippet of new music.

“We spent the last few weeks recording new music in a wildly beautiful location,” the homegrown punk rockers wrote via Facebook. “Here’s the very last thing we did. We’re very proud of it and can’t wait to share some of it with you soon.”

Details on the next Smith Street record are scant, but in an interview with Medium earlier this year, the band revealed that “11 new songs” have been written since Throw Me In The River, the band’s acclaimed third album, was released two years ago.

Some of the songs have apparently made their way into the band’s live set and their soundcheck, so if you’ve checked out a Smith Street show in the last 12 months or so, you may have caught a glimpse of their fourth full-length album.
