The second day of BIGSOUND 2013 is over which marks the end of this year’s conference. For those not lucky enough to be a part of the action, we thought we’d provide a succinct wrap-up of some of the happenings that caught our attention. From interviews with acts, to professional discussion panels with industry greats, to some amazing gigs we’ve caught, here are the five things we learnt at BIGSOUND 2013 day two.
1. Way Of The Eagle Live Up To The Hype
ARIA-nominated producer, engineer and composer Jan Skubisewski and a rotating roster of a who’s who of Australian singers (think Dan Sultan, Owl Eyes, etc) are responsible for one of the most hyped acts of the year in the form of Way Of The Eagle. Last night, the producer and his crew made their live debut and stunned audiences. Having already been responsible for one of Triple J’s most played singles, ‘Rattlesnake’, Way Of The Eagle is now hitting the road, and if you don’t catch this amazing live act – you’re silly. 2.Music Glue Has Officially Launched
The successful international company had its Australian launch yesterday and it’s safe to say bands, managers, labels, venues, and promoters alike were excited. From small independent venues to Grammy-winning global artists, Music Glue users all over the world are able to sell their digital content, physical merchandise, and event tickets in multiple currencies, multiple languages via any device from mobile to tablet and PC. Rad!
3. Apps Are Important
Taking its cue from other music conferences like CMJ and SXSW, BIGSOUND brought out the big guns with their app this year, making it easier than ever to get around the many conferences, amazing panels, an enormous list of live gigs, and cool pop ups that were happening throughout the valley. Take note other music festivals!
4. Musicians More Or Less Agree About The Internet
During the interviews Tone Deaf conducted during the conference, there were a few questions we asked every artist pertaining to what the biggest issue facing the music industry was. While we got some weird, funny and downright outrageous responses from the likes of Jeremy Neale, Yukon Blonde, MTNS, Willow Beats, and Major Leagues, one thing most of them seemed to agree on was the impact of the internet with the consensus being along the lines of “yeah, it sucks we’re not getting paid for our music, but it also kinda rocks cause everyone can hear it.”
5. Bluesfest Is Going To Rock Again Next Year
During the Bluesfest luncheon, a little birdy by the name of Peter Noble, aka Bluesfest festival director, revealed that the one and only India.Arie may be making an appearance at the 2014 instalment of the festival. Check out what we know so far here.
