Every member of the human race is programmed to enjoy seeing other human beings fail, which is why catching someone trying to recover from an awkward half-trip or watching SXSW hipsters being trolled with fake band names are some of life’s sweetest joys.

However, it doesn’t get any sweeter than seeing a news reporter messing up a live broadcast – especially when that news reporter is standing in the middle of a mosh pit at a metal gig.

PBS thought it would be a good idea to send their presenter Steve Goldbloom right into the frontline to cover Pitchfork’s Show No Mercy event at SXSW. Unsurprisingly, and luckily for the internet’s sadistic pleasure, Goldbloom’s fellow punters showed him absolutely zero mercy.

The poor guy never stood a chance. He looks like a gazelle amongst a pack of lions, and, completely drowned out by Texan metal band Power Trip, he doesn’t get a single word in.

The footage is simply so brilliant that it could be fake, but different sources have defended its legitimacy. “It’s true. And you can actually see that foot on my head at 0:37.”

A writer at Noisey says he “can attest to the fact that this 100% happened”, and the beaten-up reporter Goldbloom himself has clarified that his painful ordeal was real.

“It’s true. And you can actually see that foot on my head at 0:37,” Goldbloom wrote in the video comments, clearly able to roll with the punches both figuratively and literally.

Without further ado, watch the madness below. You’re allowed to enjoy it – we’re all human.
