How often do you find your favourite band announcing a series of huge tour dates around the world, only to realise that none of those dates will see them coming to your city, or worse, your country? We get it, it’s a major hassle, and it’s the bane of every music-lover’s existence. But the good news is that The Smashing Pumpkins are bridging that gap this weekend when they livestream the entirety of their upcoming gig in Seattle.

Over the last year, there’s been endless discussion about The Smashing Pumpkins and their current reunion tour. While plans to reunite with original bassist D’Arcy Wretzky were halted due to bad blood and heightened emotions, the remainder of the band have been out on the road, playing shows, and even releasing new tunes.

Now, fans who can’t make it to one of the band’s shows and can watch their upcoming gig in full, from the comfort of their own home.

Incidentally, last week saw The Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan speak out in regard to how Nirvana’s rise to fame instantly changed what his perception of fame was as a young musician.

“To give you context, our record Gish, which was on an independent label called Caroline, at the time was the largest-selling independent record ever released,” explained Corgan. “I think at that point we had sold about 350,000-400,000 copies, which even today, is still a big number.”

“Then a little band called Nirvana came out and sold a bazillion copies. Then Pearl Jam sold a bazillion copies, so the standard of what was a successful record, literally changed on us overnight.”

“We went from being like, ‘Wow, you guys are doing great, big future’ to like, ‘You’re not going to quite make it’,” he continued. “Wow, what happened? Alternative radio around 1991 – I think there were seven stations in America. And by the mid-’90s, I think there were 100-something stations.”
