With artists such as Tame Impala and Slipknot eyeing off mid-2019 as the release date for new tunes, next year is shaping up to be a big one for music-lovers.

Over the last few months, we’ve been progressively hearing more and more about Slipknot’s new album. After teasing fans with word a new record late last year, the band tempered expectations by noting they wouldn’t actually release it until at least 2019.

Since then, frontman Corey Taylor has gotten fans nice and excited by revealing that the new record sounds a lot like 2001’s Iowa, while remarking that  the album’s lyrics are among the best he’s ever written.

While Taylor also explained that he’s been working on new tunes for Stone Sour ahead of Slipknot’s return, the group’s frontman has now given us a tentative release date for the new record.

Speaking to Spain’s Resurrection Fest (via Blabbermouth), Taylor revealed that while Slipknot are eyeing off mid-2019 as the new record’s release date, he noted they’re hoping for a big world tour to accompany the new album.

“It all depends on when we get in the studio. Right now, the plan is for us to be in the studio early next year — like, first couple of months next year,” he explained.

“So, a couple of months to get that going, a couple of months to get production, new masks, new outfits, new everything, and hopefully be able to come and start touring in the summer [in the Northern Hemisphere] when the album comes out.”

Likewise, Corey Taylor also revealed that the band have about 20 songs that are currently in demo form. “They are really, really good,” Taylor explained. “It’ll just come down to which ones come out the best, and we take that, we make the album out of that, put the album out.”

“However, the way we’re talking right now, we’re trying to find ways that everyone can hear all the songs. So we’ll put the album out, and then maybe we’ll release something after that.”

As it stands, it’s been four years since Slipknot released their last album, .5: The Gray Chapter. While this isn’t the longest fans have had to wait for a new record, longtime supporters of the group are undoubtedly keen to hear new music as soon as possible.

Of course, if you can’t wait for your Slipknot fix, don’t forget that Corey Taylor will be hitting up Aussie shores this December when he brings Stone Sour out for the inaugural Good Things festival.
