The Flaming Lips are gearing up to release a brand new record next year, and it’s set to feature a rather special guest.

Undoubtedly one of the finest bands ever to come from the US state of Oklahoma (Hanson are in close contention), The Flaming Lips have earned a reputation for being one of the most eclectic and prolific on the scene.

Having released their last studio album – Oczy Mlody – back in 2017, the group have unveiled three compilation albums this year, a podcast, and are showing absolutely no signs of slowing down.

Taking to Instagram overnight, a clearly excited Wayne Coyne revealed that their 15th album will be titled released in April, and is set to feature guest narration from The Clash’s Mick Jones.

“Our King’s Mouth album that will be coming out on Record Store Day in April has Mick Jones on it,” Wayne Coyne explained. “Yeah Mick Jones from The Clash and Big Audio Dynamite.”

“He’s doing the narration … he’s on almost every song… it really it quite unbelievable,” Coyne continued. “Ill post a little video clip so you can hear him … but yeah!!!!! Man!!! Sooooo cool.”

While it’s not clear if Mick Jones will be contributing any other musical expertise other than narration, fans have undoubtedly begun to wonder what a narrated album will sound like.

One of the most notable albums to feature narration in recent memory was undoubtedly King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s 2017 album, Murder Of The Universe, which featured prominent narration from Leah Senior.

Although a brief clip of ‘All For The Life Of The City’ doesn’t feature any vocals from Mick Jones, we’re definitely starting to get rather eager to receive some full-length previews of this new record.

In recent Flaming Lips news, the band announced a few months ago that they’re keen on releasing a record filled with Miley Cyrus’ urine. Having released records containing blood and beer in the past, this seems like something of a logical step forward, right?

“You can’t really up the ante too much from human blood, but maybe when the beer is your own beer – the beer was made especially for the Flaming Lips and has our influence in its taste and colour” Wayne Coyne said to NME.

“That’s not as insane as having a little bit of Erykah Badu, and Chris Martin’s blood in your records. Probably not as insane as that, but still pretty great.”

“The next record we were talking about releasing was the Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz record. We’d get a good amount of Miley’s pee and mix it with some glitter and put that in. I think that would up the ante. Don’t you?”
