Nu-metal pioneers Korn are apparently in a legal battle at the moment, reportedly suing former drummer David Silveria over a dispute related to unpaid royalties.
Forming back in 1993, Korn quickly became trailblazers of the nu-metal trend, becoming a household name thanks to the success of their 1994 self-titled debut.
Consisting of Jonathan Davis, James ‘Munky’ Shaffer, Brian ‘Head’ Welch, Reginald ‘Fieldy’ Arvizu, and drummer David Silveria, the group’s lineup remained relatively consistent until the mid-’00s.
While Head would depart the band temporarily in 2005, Silveria went on a “temporary hiatus” in late 2006. However, Silveria sued his bandmates back in 2015, claiming he was prevented from rejoining the group in 2013, and that he had not received royalties he was owed.
Eventually, the group settled the matter in court, with Silveria giving up his rights to Korn royalties in exchange for an undisclosed figure.

However, as The Blast reports, David Silveria contacted SoundExchange (who deal with royalty payments) in 2018 to claim he was entitled to a number of unpaid royalties.
The remaining members of Korn responded to Silveria by informing him such an act was in direct breach of the agreement he signed and that he was required to withdraw his claim from SoundExchange.
Reportedly, David Silveria has yet to withdraw his claim, meaning that SoundExchange have been forced to put a hold on all royalties owed to the band, an amount which Korn say adds up to approximately $290,000.
In related news, Korn have reportedly been hard at work in the studio getting their upcoming 13th album ready for their fans.
“The Korn album should be out by next fall,” Head explained back in December. “We have to get it out, because we want to get back to the fans next year and do our thing.”
“We’re working hard. We’ve been through a lot. Now it’s time to get all those emotions and turn them into a positive with music. Jonathan is really good at that.”
Here’s hoping the band’s current legal battle doesn’t delay the album in any way.
