The metal community has criticised the Grammy’s for excluding Pantera’s Vinnie Paul from the ceremony’s In-Memoriam tribute. The legendary drummer passed away of what was revealed to be a dilated cardiomyopathy in June 2018, aged 54.

The Grammy’s In-Memoriam reel honours musicians who have passed in the last year, with last nights ceremony remembering the legacy of artists like Mac Miller, Avicii and Aretha Franklin.

The Grammy’s track record with remembering the legacy of heavy music icons – in previous years, the Grammy’s have forgotten to include Slayer’s  Jeff Hanneman Type O Negative’s Peter Steele and Slipknot’s Paul Gray from their Memoriam reel.

Overnight, the metal community has taken to social media to express their disdain for the ceremony in their sheer laziness and disrespect.

“Well the may have forgotten to mention the passing of FOUR TIME #GRAMMY nominee #VinniePaul, but I won’t. Try to do your homework next year kids, will ya?”, said Chris Jericho.

“But I am disappointed and disheartened that Vinnie Paul of Pantera/HellYeah, All That Remains guitarist Oli Herbert and Kyle Pavone of We Came As Romans were not acknowledged in the Annual Memoriam list this year” said Halestorm’s Lizzy Hale in an Instagram post.

Vinnie Paul wasn’t the only notable heavy musician left out of the ceremony – Kyle Pavone of We Came As Romans who passed in late 2018, as well as All That Remain’s Oli Herbert were also excluded from the tribute reel.

The Grammy’s surprisingly gave High On Fire’s Electric Messiah the Best Metal Performance award – a shock considering the ceremony’s favouring of Greta Van Fleet in the rock categories.
