Dinosaur Jr. frontman J Mascis has rescheduled an upcoming solo performance so that he can go see none other than music icon Neil Young.

Ah, musicians, they’re just like us. Deep in the heart of every famous musician, there is a music fan who relishes in the fact they get to follow in the steps of their idols every time they step on stage.

Of course, being an in-demand musician also means that you often miss the chance to see your favourite acts performing on stage. After all, it’s pretty hard to go and see a musical icon like Neil Young when you’re booked to play your own show that same night.

Well, that’s exactly the position that Dinosaur Jr.’s  Mascis recently found himself in, choosing to postpone his show rather than miss out.

Taking to Facebook on Friday, J Mascis revealed that his upcoming show in Berlin would be rescheduled so that the fuzzed-out rocker can go and see the Godfather of Grunge, Neil Young.

“Hey Berlin, we heard Neil Young is playing on July 3rd,” the post began. “Like you, J would love to be at that show, and rather than compete with the Godfather of Grunge, we’re moving the Festsaal Kreuzberg show from July 3 to June 30th.”

In all fairness, we can completely see why J Mascis would want to reschedule his own show. After all, as a noted admirer of Neil Young, Mascis seems like the sort of bloke who wouldn’t want to deprive anyone of the chance to see the iconic musician by having them at his own show.

Plus, there’s also the fact that Mascis is such an ardent supporter of Young that there’s every chance he could be hoping for a guest appearance on the night.

In fact, Mascis has become quite prolific at covering Neil Young, having performed ‘Cortez The Killer’ with Kurt Vile and Kevin Shields back in 2015, playing ‘Rockin’ In The Free World’ with Pearl Jam in 2016, and even heading an entire Neil Young cover night last year.

In related news, Dinosaur Jr. recently managed to inexplicably chart in Japan with a 25-year-old song. Read more about it here.
