Metallica frontman James Hetfield has given us a glimpse of his road trip soundtrack, rocking out to some classic Slayer while driving recently.

Ask any metal fan and they’ll likely agree that when some of the most famous thrash metal songs of all time come on your stereo, you can’t help but rock out.

As it turns out, even the most famous thrash metal musicians of all time aren’t immune from such a phenomenon, with James Hetfield showing his love for Slayer recently.

Taking to Instagram, Metallica frontman James Hetfield shared a video of himself driving while Slayer’s 1986 track ‘Angel Of Death’ blares from the speakers.

While Hetfield tries out a bit of air guitar, he also joins in on the vocals a bit, before giving the camera (and presumably other road-users) the old devil horns.

Captioning the post with the phrase “SLAYING makes me smile!”, Hetfield also made sure to warn other to not try this at home, clearly remembering just how dangerous heavy tunes can be while behind the wheel.

While Slayer are currently nearing the end of their almost four-decade lifespan, James Hetfield’s jam session came just days after Anthrax bassist Frank Bello made the claim that Slayer would likely come out of retirement for another show by the big four.

“That was a very special [thing],” Bello explained, referencing the times when the “big four of thrash metal” – Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax – all played on the same bill. “I hope the Big Four happens again.”

“We’re seeing so many people from the next generation that didn’t get to see that, and they see the DVD of it, and they say, ‘When are you gonna do it again?’ And I say, ‘You have to talk to Metallica. I would love to do it.’”

However, it seems that even retirement might not stop Slayer from picking up their instruments once again and reigning supreme onstage once again.

“I think if you ring up my friends in Slayer [and tell them], ‘We’re doing the Big Four,’ I think they’d play some shows,” Bello assumed.

“I think they would work it out. I think [they would come out of retirement for it]. The Big Four is special enough that we all rise to it. I would hope they would do that. I mean, I would certainly try to talk them into it.”

In related news, Metallica are set to return to Australian shores for the first time in six years later this year. No word yet if they’ll drop in a cover of ‘Angel Of Death’ while in the country, but we wouldn’t put it past them.
