It looks as though new music is on the horizon for fans of The Avalanches, with the group revealing their new record is almost done.
Back in 2000, the music world was blessed with Since I Left You, the debut album from Melbourne collective The Avalanches. After the record was released, touring and DJ sets soon gave rise to the inevitable question regarding their follow-up.
As the years went on, the mythical second album from the band became likened to Guns N’ Roses’ Chinese Democracy, with many wondering when – or if – it would ever arrive.
Thankfully, our prayers were answered when Wildflower was released in 2016, marking the return of the group, and seeing them receive widespread critical acclaim for their efforts.
However, while fans were wondering if we’d be waiting until 2032 for a new record, The Avalanches were quick to assuage our fears, revealing in 2017 that they were already looking ahead to album number three.
Then, just months later, they revealed that they’d already begun hunting for samples for the highly anticipated release.

In the middle of last year, the group Tweeted that “our third album is taking shape and we can’t wait to share it with you all. It’s already something very special,” indicating that things were looking up sooner than expected.

Then, only a few months back, the group revealed they’d recorded with Leon Bridges in the same studio where Prince recorded ‘Purple Rain’, while inquisitive Redditors, discovered that new record could feature contributions from the likes of Cornelius, JPEGMAFIA, Josh Freese, Wayne Coyne, The East Coast Inspirational Singers, and Cola Boyy.
Now we’ve received the biggest update so far, with The Avalanches taking to social media to reveal that they were wrapping up the “final session of album 3 with the Australian Boys Choir.”
Of course, this could actually be a message that’s open for debate. Does this mean that they’ve wrapped up the final session of the new album, or does it mean that they’ve just capped off their final session with the Australian Boys Choir for album number three?
Either way, it appears as though things are moving along at a rapid pace, meaning we’ll likely have new music from The Avalanches well before 2032.
In related news, the group recently performed as the opening act of The Chemical Brothers’ Australian headline tour. Check out all the action here.
