El-P has taken to Twitter to offer an update into the new Run The Jewels record, revealing the upcoming release is “hard as fuck”.
Late last year, Run The Jewels’ El-P revealed that the group’s new record – ostensibly titled Run The Jewels 4 – will be released sometime in 2019.
“I know a lot of you are hoping we drop RTJ4 this year so it’s only right I let you know clearly: we are not,” El-P began. “We just got off tour like 5 months ago. I scored a film and got married. We started and are working on it but it’s not even close to done. I tell you because I love you.”
“Oh and at the risk of losing the mystery of it all, RTJ4 will probably hit around summer time. I’m sorry if that schedule disappoints anyone but we need the time to make sure the music doesn’t.”
While summer has now come and gone for our friends in the US, the question still remains about whether or not the new record will arrive before the year is out.
Although the duo recently revealed they’d been working with iconic producer Rick Rubin in the studio, El-P has now taken to Twitter to give us an update we’ve been hanging out for.

Responding to a fan questioning the record’s progress as they need “another fix”, El-P was quick to point out that the record is likely to be released in 2020, with plenty of work still to be done.
“Very far along but not mixed/done yet,” he revealed. “Plus gotta clear samples and shit so prolly out earlyish next year realistically.
“The good news is it’s hard as fuck.”
About an hour later, El-P expanded upon the new album’s content, while also thanking fans for their patience over the last couple of years.
“I can also say at this point RTJ4 is about 11 jams, it’s under 40 minutes and not a second is wasted,” he explained. “Hopefully that helps tide the curious over for a minute while we finish up.”
While the last Run The Jewels album was released in 2016, the group haven’t exactly been lazy. While ‘Let’s Go (The Royal We)’ was released as part of the Venom soundtrack last year, the pair also teamed up with Danny Brown for ‘3 Tearz’ on his most recent album just last month.
However, with the Run The Jewels website now noting that RTJ4 will be released in 2020, we can only assume it’ll be sooner rather than later that we get to hear some fresh track from Mike and El.
