The Aerosmith drama with Joey Kramer has come to a close, after weeks of feuding and speculation filled the air.
With the Grammys coming closer and closer in early January of this year, Aerosmith saw themselves in the news a whole bunch. The reason was that their drummer Joey Kramer, who has been in the band since its very beginnings in 1970, was suing them.
The claim was that the band were unfairly barring the drummer from performing in the Grammys, where the group was being honoured as 2020’s MusicCares Person of the Year.
In his lawsuit, Kramer was claiming that after a six-month disability leave, his bandmates required him to audition to rejoin them onstage for their ongoing Las Vegas residency in the fall, asking him to play to a click track. This obviously caused some bad blood — as well as, according to Kramer, a resurgence of his health issues — and even led to some excruciating moments, like the video that surfaced of Kramer being blocked from entering Aerosmith’s rehearsal by some very un-intimidating hired security. Eventually, a judge ruled in the band’s favour regarding the timeline for Grammys prep and Kramer not being able to return after a lengthy absence; the performance went on without him.
According to TMZ reports, the band is back together now, and have put all the drama in the past where it belongs. Kramer is set to play with Aerosmith at the latest instalment of the Vegas residency. The best part is that the group didn’t make Kramer audition this time around. TMZ’s sources call it an act of “good faith” between the old friends.
With Aerosmith back on track with all of their original members back in the saddle, we cannot wait to see what they do next. The world is their oyster, and we’re just happy to have Kramer back.
It’s good to have the band ‘Back in the Saddle’.
