Speculation around a new System Of A Down album as been at an all time high, lately, with the “will they, won’t they” getting a bit old. However, drummer John Dolmayan has now stated that it’s “very unlikely” that we’ll be seeing a new album, noting that he’s “not even sure” he wants to do it, anymore.
System Of A Down fans keep getting tossed around with the hopes of a new album. First, bassist Shavo Odadjian stated that it was “weird” that they hadn’t yet made a new record. Then, guitarist Daron Malakia noted that frontman Serj Tankian was the one holding them back.
Now, drummer John Dolmayan has released a statement revealing what he thinks is to come – nothing. That’s right, nothing.
While speaking to Dean Delray on his podcast Let There Be Talk, Dolmayan explained that he finds it “very unlikely” that anything will happen with the future of the band, noting, “I’m not even sure I wanna do it anymore.”
Furthermore, he revealed that his continual trying is draining, and “just so much drama and bullshit,” continuing with, “In a lot of ways, I’m just over it.”
The sensational drummer went on by saying that he’s “fought really hard” to get a System Of A Down album in the works, especially since 2005’s Mesmerize and Hypnotize came about.
“More than anybody else, I was calling people, ‘Let’s get together. Put the egos aside. Let’s have meetings. Whatever it takes. Let’s get in the studio. Let’s just get in the studio and see what happens.’”

Regardless of his trying nature, Dolmayan mentioned that he “just couldn’t get it done,” stating “I failed.”
“I think that we’re all to blame. I could just blame Daron [Malakian, guitar] and Serj [Tankian, vocals], because, quite frankly, they’re the primary songwriters, so it’s easy to.”
“Relationships break up all the time. And that’s with one person. Try having it with four,” Dolmayan said, summing it up.
