Heilung are set to return Down Under in March 2027, bringing their otherworldly blend of ancient sounds, theatrical spectacle and immersive live rituals to Australia and New Zealand.

The experimental folk collective have announced seven shows across the two countries, kicking things off with two special performances at the iconic Sydney Opera House on March 1st and 2nd.

From there, they’ll take their mesmerising live experience to Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Brisbane’s Riverstage, Adelaide’s AEC Theatre and Perth’s Red Hill Auditorium, before wrapping things up at Auckland’s Spark Arena on March 16th.

For the uninitiated, a Heilung performance is no ordinary concert. Combining ancient instruments, hypnotic percussion, throat singing and haunting vocals with elaborate costumes, incense and an ensemble of warriors, the collective create an immersive experience that blurs the boundaries between music, theatre and ceremony.

It’s a world they’ve been building since 2015, drawing inspiration from the sounds, traditions and spiritual practices of early civilisations. Rather than subscribing to conventional genres, Heilung describe their work as “amplified history”, using music to explore humanity’s shared cultural past.

Every performance begins with an ancient prayer led by founding member Kai Uwe Faust, before the collective, including vocalist Maria Franz and producer Christopher Juul, lead audiences through a ritual designed to feel as much like a journey through time as a live show.

“With singing these primordial songs we want to give tribute to these cultures, reconnect to the beginnings and remember that we all, from East to West, from past to present, are connected through the exchange of ideas and inspiring each other,” Faust explained.

The upcoming shows mark Heilung’s return to Australian stages following their 2024 tour, which included two sold-out performances at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre. This time, the collective are taking their rituals into considerably larger and more ambitious settings.

The announcement also comes as Heilung emerge from a period of hiatus, with the collective returning to the studio in October to begin work on their highly anticipated fourth studio album.

In the meantime, fans can look forward to Sagas, arriving December 11th. The collection features music created during Heilung’s collaboration with video game developer Ninja Theory on Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, including previously unreleased recordings that explore a more cinematic side of their sound.

German-American singer-songwriter Lilith Max will join the tour for all performances outside Sydney, bringing her own blend of dark folklore, mythology and fantasy to the stage.

Sydney pre-sale tickets will be available from 12pm AEDT on Wednesday, October 21st, with general tickets on sale at 9am AEDT on Friday, October 23rd.

For all remaining dates, early bird pre-sales begin at 9am local time on Tuesday, October 27th, ahead of general sales at 9am local time on Thursday, October 29th.
