After almost 50 years in the game, Boston rockers Aerosmith are set to receive their very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Over the last year, we’ve seen a handful of famous musicians receive long-overdue honours by scoring a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, including “Weird Al” Yankovic and Snoop Dogg.

However, while both of these artists are undoubtedly veterans of the music industry, none have had a career as long and storied as Aerosmith.

First forming back in 1970, the group released their self-titled debut in 1973, and have managed to keep an almost wholly consistent lineup throughout their entire career.

Now, as Variety notes, one of the world’s best-selling rock acts are set to get a rather public honour.

On Thursday, February 14th, Aerosmith are set to become the 2,657th star on the Walk of Fame, following on from Pink, who received her’s this week.

“We have been waiting a long time to honor Aerosmith with their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” said Hollywood Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez. “Aerosmith is one the greatest rock bands in the world and we expect many fans will be ‘Crazy’ excited to see them honored.”

In a statement given to Variety, Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton explained that the group never expected such an honour to come during their career.

“The only things I knew to expect from being in a band and making it were girls, money and fame,” he explained. “Oh, and being on American Bandstand. I never expected videos, digital recordings, playing in Russia or having a roller coaster at Disney World — never mind a star on Hollywood Blvd.”

This news comes just one day after it was reported that Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler had opened his second ‘Janie’s House’, a women’s shelter for abused girls.

Aerosmith are set to celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2020, though there’s no word yet if these plans will include Australia. As it stands, the band’s last Aussie tour was back in 2013, 23 years after their first trek back in 1990.
