Billie Joe Armstrong continues to share some killer covers of classic tracks for No Fun Mondays series, and the latest effort is a driving version of The Equals’ ‘Police On My Back’.

The latest effort from the Green Day frontman follows covers of ‘A New England’ by Billy Brag, and ‘Gimme Some Truth’ by John Lennon. All the covers to date have felt quite timely in the current political climate of 2020.

Uploading the cover of the classic 1967 tune, Armstrong paid tribute to the most commonly known version of the song by The Clash. “This was originally written and performed by The Equals, Eddy Grant’s beat group from the 60.

“And of course The Clash slay it.”

Since entering quarantine and lockdown, Armstrong has been inspired to lay down a whole stack of covers. Others have included The Wonders’ ‘That Thing You Do!’, Tommy James & The Shondells’ ‘I Think We’re Alone Now,’ ‘Manic Monday’ with Bangles singer Susannah Hoffs, Johnny Thunders’ ‘You Can’t Put Your Arms Around a Memory,’ ‘War Stories’ by Starjet, Don Backy’s ‘Amico’ and Kim Wilde’s ‘Kids in America.’

Back in March, Armstrong joined the iHeart Living Room Concert For America, performing in his living room as part of the virtual gig which saw songs performed by Dave Grohl, Billie Eilish, Elton John and more.

These live-streamed performances have provided some solace for plenty of Aussies who had hoped to see Green Day on their 2020 Australian tour, with the band’s November dates with Fall Out Boy and Weezer sadly cancelled as a result of the global pandemic.

Green Day also recently released some new original music, in the form of surprise EP Otis Big Guitar Mix which dropped in April.

Comprised of three tracks, the EP features remixes of songs that were on their 2012 trio of albums: ‘Oh Love’ from ¡Uno!, ‘Lazy Bones’ from ¡Dos!, and ‘Wild One’ from ¡Tré!.
