The Big Pineapple Music Festival 2014 lineup has been announced with the Queensland music event returning after its debut last year.
Hosted at the iconic tourist attraction of the same name, the Big Pineapple Music Festival will see a selection of Australia’s finest once again flocking to the Sunshine State next Saturday 17th May for what is touted as the largest independent music festival on the Sunshine Coast.
Satisfying all tastes from hip hop, rock, indie, roots, EDM, and blue, the Big Pineapple Music Festival 2014 lineup will play across three stages (broken up into main, electronic, and local) for a capacity of 13,000, with camping grounds for 2,500, parking for 2,400 – all surrounded by lush rainforest.
Leading the 2014 bill is hip hop trio Bliss N Eso, Aussie rock favourites The Living End and Spiderbait, as well as electro all-stars Art Vs Science.
Also on the Big Pineapple Music Festival 2014 lineup is Brisbane grunge four-piece Violent Soho, a DJ set from Alison Wonderland, the talented MCs of Thundamentals, party-starting dance duo Peking Duk, top musical trio Funkoars, the rocking sounds of Redcoats, and music eclectics Kingfisha. There’s also an impressive list of local emerging acts, including Hat Fitz & Cara, Mr Hill & Rahjconkas, Drawcard, Band Of Frequencies, Cheap Fakes, Rattraps, Ribongia, Black Diamond, Mouvment, The Tea Society, Young Franco, Jasti, and – jetting over from the UK – Total Eclipse.
As well as the music lineup, the Big Pineapple Music Festival 2014 will feature market stalls, food vendors, bars, skateboarding and wakeboarding demos, vintage cars, amusements, and a whole lot more against the pristine backdrop.
Last year’s inaugural Big Pineapple Festival – featuring Birds of Tokyo, British India, and Grinspoon – offered a bargain ticket price of $70, managing to sell out its 10,000 ticket capacity and setting up for a huge success in its debut weekend.
However the event did receive some negative feedback over long queues and organisational issues at the bar, irritated festival-goers dubbing the event the ‘Big Line-Apple Music Festival.
“We miscalculated. We hadn’t dealt with a crowd that big before,” said Festival promoter Mark Pico, admitting there were teething problems with the event’s debut, but having learned from the issues; “next year we’ll be all over it.”
Increasing its ticket capacity from 10,000 to 13,000, organisers still anticipate Big Pineapple Music Festival 2014 to sell out again this year, with more acts to be added to the lineup – including another headliner – in the coming weeks.
Tickets for the event are still a relatively cheap $72 (+b/f), with members getting access to an early bird sale from Friday 6th December, followed by general public sale on Monday 9th December.
