This Sunday saw Bronx rapper Cardi B make history at the 61st Grammy Awards. Cardi’s debut record, Invasion of Privacy, took out the award for Best Rap Album. Cardi B is the first female solo artist in history to win in that category.

We can’t even begin to fathom the scope of how overwhelming this experience must’ve been for Cardi B. Which may have been the cause of her faux pas that came later on that night. Backstage at the show, Cardi B took to Instagram to celebrate her win. On a video posted to her story, Cardi is shown thanking an admirer for a bouquet of flowers. That person? The late Tom Petty, who passed away in 2017 after an accidental overdose.

“Thank you, Tom Petty, for the flowers,” Cardi shared in the Instagram video. “I left the room but, um, and the flowers were very big. I want to say thank you so much and this is such a beautiful note. Motherfuckers love me, bro.”

The note attached to the bouquet featured lyrics from the hook of Petty’s 1996 track ‘Walls (Circus)’, “You’ve got a heart so big it could crush this town.” Which Cardi B registered as a note from the late musician.

It’s completely adorable and innocent and Cardi B must be protected at all costs, check out a recording of the since-deleted video below.

The sender of the bouquet remains anonymous. For all we know, Tom Petty came back from the dead with the sole intention of gifting a gigantic bunch of flowers to the rap queen. I know if I was given one more day on this planet, that is exactly how I’d spend my time.

Since her Grammy’s win, Cardi B has deleted her Instagram account. The deletion seems to have been fueled by the lambasting she received after her Grammy nod. Before deleting the account, Cardi shared a video of herself clapping back at those criticising her. You can watch a recording of it below.

The criticism that Cardi B has faced has encouraged a bunch of celebrities to stand up for her, including Chance The Rapper and Lady Gaga.
