Corey Taylor says Slipknot would likely continue without him if he left

Corey Taylor has opened up about the potential future for Slipknot, revealing that the band could very likely continue without him if he he were to walk away.

It sounds hard to believe, but next year will mark 25 years since the members of Slipknot got together and began making music.

While vocalist Corey Taylor would join the band in 1997, and they would release their first commercially-available album in 1999, the group have spent two decades as one of the most ferocious bands on the scene.

However, with brutal songs, fiery live shows, and a tendency for being one of the most intense groups out there, you wouldn’t be the first person to assume that the members of Slipknot can’t keep up such an active lifestyle forever.

As it turns out though, frontman Corey Taylor has indeed entertained this notion, explaining to Metal Hammer that while he has considered leaving the band in the past, their future success is not entirely dependent on his presence.

“I mean, it’s crossed my mind as the years have gone on,” Taylor began. “It’s gotten harder to do this. You think about when the end is. No one thought we’d be doing it 20 years later.

“If I just couldn’t do it anymore, I’d just stop, but that doesn’t mean that the band would stop. If I can’t do it then someone might be able to take my place.

“I’ve thought about it before: If the right person came around and the guys were into it then I’ll just head off,” he continued. “We can’t shortchange anyone.”

While Corey Taylor also noted that their younger selves would be “blown away” that the band is still doing what they do 20 years later, fans can rest easy knowing that there doesn’t appear to be any end in sight for Taylor’s tenure within the band.

In related news, Slipknot recently dropped their latest single, ‘Solway Firth’, on Tuesday, and are gearing up to release their new album, We Are Not Your Kind, next month.

The band are also set to hit up Australian shores later this year, when they accompany Metallica on the long-awaited Aussie leg of their WorldWired tour.
