On Saturday night The Gorillaz cut the final song of their set at Roskilde Festival short when Del The Funky Homosapien fell off stage. Gorillaz Frontman Damon Albarn has now given an update on Del’s injuries in a new interview with Beats 1.
In the interview Albarn says he initially thought The Funky Homosapien would be able to finish. “I thought I was going to able to carry the song on. I though he was going to be okay,” He also reveals that the frequent Gorillaz collaborator has seven fractured ribs and a punctured lung.
The performer tweeted from the hospital later on, revealing he will recover but would be staying there for a while. Albarn also confirmed that Del would recover fully, “Del is in hospital still in Roskilde,” continuing “He’s gonna be fine.”
Beats 1 radio host Matt Wilkinson was clearly surprised by the news, “This is much worse than I was expecting, I thought it was just a stage fall.” The mastermind behind the band agreed, “It was just a stage fall, and I’ve fallen off stage several times, off stages way higher than that and I’ve been so fortunate.”
Gorillaz are currently on Tour behind their new album The Now Now, with no shows scheduled for Australia yet. The band shows no sign of slowing down right now however, as Bandmember Jamie Hewlett revealed last year .
