A new David Bowie themed cocktail bar will open in London’s West End in a few weeks. “Ziggy’s” is named after the late singer‘s iconic persona and will feature drinks named after songs from Bowie’s breakout album Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars.
The bar will launch at Hotel Café Royal on September 20th. Fans may remember the hotel is the location of Bowie’s famous “Last Supper” where he retired the Ziggy Stardust character on July 3rd 1973. The party was attended by Lou Reed, Mick Jagger and heaps of celebrities after the final Ziggy Stardust show at Hammersmith Odeon.
The bar promises to be decorated with photos taken by Mick Rock on the famous night of the “Last Supper”, and will have a special David Bowie jukebox. NME reports the drink menu includes a ‘Tigers on Vaseline’ – a twist on the classic piña colada – which references lyrics from “Hang On To Yourself”. Whilst “Darkness and Disgrace” is a rum based espresso martini named after lyrics from “Lady Stardust”.

The manager of Café Royal told NME “David Bowie played a really important part in Café Royal’s history, with the famous Last Supper taking place here. It only seems fitting to provide a homage to one of our most esteemed patrons.” It sounds like they’ve nailed it and now we want one in Australia.
Since passing away in 2016, a final EP of Bowie’s last songs has been released as well as retrospective boxsets chronicling each era of his career. The latest boxset “Loving The Alien” is set to be released on October 21st and features Let’s Dance and more of his iconic 80s albums.
