More than three years after their last studio effort, alt-rock icons Dinosaur Jr. have revealed they’re in the process of making their 12th record.

Back in August of 2016, Massachusetts rock legends Dinosaur Jr. released Give A Glimpse Of What Yer Not, their 11th studio album, and first new record in almost four years.

While it’s nothing compared to the 10-year wait between albums that occurred due to their time apart, fans have undoubtedly found themselves getting used to a lengthy period between records for the group.

Now though, it seems that the wait for album number 12 might soon be over, with the band revealing they’re in the studio working on the new release now (via Consequence Of Sound).

Taking to Instagram recently, founding bassist Lou Barlow shared a message from manager Brian Schwartz that allowed him to share the news that “it’s fine to start broadcasting the fact that Dino is in the studio making and [sic] a new LP.”

In the photo’s caption, Barlow noted that “once th [sic] snow stops” he is planning to team up with J Mascis to “get on w/ it”, indicating that we’ve got either days, weeks, or a couple of months before the band get stuck into the new record’s sessions again.

In related news though, there’s no word as to whether fans might get a taster of what they’re working on before Dinosaur Jr.’s Lou Barlow visits Australia as part of Sebadoh next month.

The band’s first Aussie tour since 2014, the latest run of dates come in support of Act Surprised, which similarly serves as the band’s first new record in six years.

It’s rare to see a band of this calibre on our shores, so be sure to catch Sebadoh when they visit next month, and our positive response might convince Barlow to being Dinosaur Jr. back to Australia as part of the new record’s promotional cycle.
